HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT
The Department of Social Disciplines began its history from the first days of the university’s existence. At the beginning, she provided teaching of economic, humanitarian, legal, historical-philosophical, psychological and other disciplines. Gradually, in the process of reorganization the graduating departments were allocated and since October 2008 the department has been functioning as an already updated structural subdivision.
During the time of the establishment of the department, it was headed and developed by renowned scholars such as: Doctor of Economics, Associate Professor Proskura V.S., Doctor of Psychology, Professor Shcherban T.D. (today the rector of the Mukachevo State University), Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Hurzhii O.I., Doctor of Sciences, Prof. Bletskan M.I., Candidate of Historical Sciences, Assoc. Prof. Shershun I.H., Candidate of Phylological Sciences, Assoc. Prof. Andrusiak I.I., Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Kapitan L.I. etc.
Since 2016, the department is headed by a Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor O.O.Malets
Since September 2017, the Department of Social Disciplines has been reorganized by joining the “Department of Physical Education”, and clarification has been made in the name of the department, namely, the Department of Social Disciplines and Physical Education.
There are 12 instructors on the department, among them 8 with scientific degrees and scientists (Mishchur T.L. – Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor, Kukharchuk O.S. – Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor, O.A. Malets – Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor, Ilto H.F. – Candidate of Political Science, Associate Professor, Oliinyk V.V. – Candidate of Culturology, Associate Professor; Ksenofontov S.S. – Doctor of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor; Gavryshko S.G. – Candidate of Science in Physical Education and Sports, Budkevych H. B. – Honored Worker of Physical Culture and Sports of Ukraine, associate professor and works on his theses – Stasiv N.M.).
Teachers of the department have been awarded diplomas, certificates of gratitude of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration, the Transcarpathian Regional Council, diplomas and certificates for participation in scientific conferences and seminars, in particular international ones.
The Department of Social Disciplines and Physical Education provides the general scientific and humanitarian component of the training of students of all directions and specialties of the University.
Scientific work at the Department of Social Sciences and Physical Education is carried out in accordance with the plan of the Department’s work, decisions of the Scientific and Methodological Councils of Mukachevo State University in the areas of: preparation, participation and holding of scientific conferences; conducting scientific seminars and round tables; preparation and attraction of students for scientific work and participation in student olympiads, competitions, contests on social and humanitarian subjects; work on scientific publications of different levels. The state of scientific work of the department is the subject of discussion at the meetings of the department.
Research activity at the Department of Social Sciences and Physical Education is carried out according to the approved scientific themes: “Ukraine and the World: Historical, Political and Cultural Dimension.”
The task of the instructor is to create a new generation, citizens of a civilized European state, Ukraine, whose awareness is based on a deep knowledge of world historical experience, national history, the formation of a legal culture, philosophical thinking. In the educational process, lecturers of the department use advanced teaching methods (using multimedia, interactive tools and techniques), which allows it to be conducted at a high professional level. The use of innovative technologies helps to fulfill a public request – the upbringing of a creative person who, unlike a person-performer, can think and generate ideas independently, make brave, non-standard decisions.
The scientific and pedagogical staff of the department is constantly working on improving the professional, scientific level. Scientists carry out candidate and doctoral theses, undergo advanced training courses at leading universities and academic institutions of the country – Uzhhorod National University, Institute of History of Ukraine and the Institute of Philosophy named after. H. Skovoroda, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. The main content of the methodological work of the department is searching and continuous improvement of ways, methods of solving the problem of humanistic thinking formation, world outlook, active life position of Ukrainian citizens, use of new approaches and technology in the teaching of social and humanitarian disciplines.
Instructors of the Department are regular participants of international seminars, conferences, materials and participate in general university and city events of a scientific and practical nature. The scientific and pedagogical workers act as initiators of celebrations on the occasion of the anniversary dates of Ukrainian history, hold round tables (“Human rights on the path of European integration of Ukraine”, “Shevchenko’s word in the context of historical memory” (to the 200th anniversary of T. Shevchenko’s anniversary), ” 75th anniversary of the Carpathian Ukraine “(photo exhibition), etc.).
SCIENTIFIC WORK OF THE DEPARTMENT
Scientific work at the Department of Social Sciences and Physical Education is carried out in accordance with the plan of the Department’s work, decisions of the Scientific and Methodological Councils of Mukachevo State University in the areas of: preparation, participation and holding of scientific conferences; conducting scientific seminars and round tables; preparation and attraction of students for scientific work and participation in student olympiads, competitions, competitions on social and humanitarian subjects; work on scientific publications of different levels.
At the department, the research activity is carried out on the scientific topics: “Ukraine and the world: historical, political, legal and cultural dimensions” and “Olympic and physical education at higher educational establishments”.
Ukrainian scientific and practical conferences were held by the instructors: “Transformation of the social and political process in Ukraine in the war and postwar period”, “Ethnopolitical and ethno-cultural processes of the Carpathian Euroregion” and round tables on the topics: “M.P. Hrushevskyi is the great son of his people “,” Ivan Mazepa: a mystery of history “,” Culture and quality of providing services by city food establishments “; scientific seminars: “The Story of Hrushevskyi in Ukrainian Historical Science”, “The Strangle Path to Independence”, and also the lecturers of the Department took an active part in conducting a scientific and practical seminar on the occasion of the International Human Rights Day on “The Role of Legal Relations between Ukraine and the EU in different aspects of human being: problems and innovative ways of solving “
The Department holds meetings on a permanent methodical seminar: “Global trends and problems of education development: consequences for Ukraine”. At the inter-departmental methodological seminar: “Quality of training of specialists in the context of higher education reform” were discussed the reports “Legal aspects of the implementation of the Law of Ukraine” On Higher Education “in the context of a competent approach”; “Formation of the political culture of the future teacher”; “National Doctrine for the Development of Education at the Stage of Higher Education Reform”; “Higher School Reform: A Time or Situation Challenge”.
In 2014, the annual historical and cultural festival “Return to Oneself” was launched to update the desire to understand the history and culture of their region, to strengthen national, public ties, patriotic unity of the nation.
During 2016-2017, 30 articles were published by the staff of the department, 24 of them in professional journals, 3 in international journals, 27 in conferences, 13 of them in international and 14 in Ukrainian conferences, and also in university scientific and practical seminar.
