HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT

The Department of Psychology in Mukachevo State University was established in 2008 on the basis of the reorganized Humanities Department. The educational process is performed by a skilled and experienced staff, namely: 1 Doctor of Sciences, Professor, 11 Ph.D.s (9 Ph.D.s in Psychology, 1 Ph.D. in Pedagogy, 1 Ph.D. in Sociology), Senior Lecturers and Assistants.

The Department of Psychology is a graduating university unit that prepares “Bachelor” and “Master” degree students in specialty 053 “Psychology”, field of knowledge 05 “Social and Behavioral Sciences”.

The subject of the department scientific research is “Socio-psychological determinants of practical psychologists’ professional training” (state register 0112u000716), which centers around study directions: socio-psychological factors of students’ career orientation, and the psychological background for professional development motivation.

During the academic period, students receive profound psychological training, which is the basis for modern psychologist development. The obtained theoretical knowledge is practically applied during different practice types: introductory practice, field practice, pre-diploma and assistant (masters) practice. There is a student’s research group where they gain experience of primary psychological research and professional skills in work with clients.

Psychological service of MSU provides psychological assistance to students during university study, which creates the basis for bachelors and masters’ practice.

Graduates of the Department work as practical psychologists in educational and health care institutions, at the enterprise; as a counselors at state authority and administration offices.

SCIENTIFIC WORK OF THE DEPARTMENT

The subject of the department scientific research is “Socio-psychological determinants of practical psychologists’ professional training” (state register 0112u000716), which centers around study directions: socio-psychological factors of students’ career orientation, and the psychological background for professional development motivation.

Integrated training “The Way to Self: calling and career of a psychologist in modern world” has been developed and tested, it is aimed at creating the conditions for the professional self-identity of future psychologists development; Another training “Successful Child” has been created for the purpose of creating the motivation to study and self-develop among students, and co-work with parents.

According to the results of the research, the department scientists have published 3 monographs, 1 textbook, over 70 articles in the leading scientific editions of Ukraine, including 8 published abroad. The department managed the All-Ukrainian scientific and practical conference “Psychological and pedagogical peculiarities of personality development in educational space”. A collective monograph “Actual problems of personality development in modern society” was published in 2015.

The methodical work of the department is aimed at providing and improving the already existing forms and types of classes, creating the educational and methodological complexes in disciplines and specialties considering modern requirements for training the specialists. Teachers of the department deliver more than 50 academic disciplines. The department has an IT lab equipped with computers: electronic library encounters more than 400 sources of specialized psychological literature.

The department scientific topics include researches on:

  • Psychological specificities of future teachers’ professional readiness for innovative activity;
  • Social factors of physical violence among children of senior adolescence;
  • Mental states and personality orientation of secondary school pupils;
  • Psychological aspects of the future pre-school specialists’ reflection development;
  • Psychological conditions for the formation of professional self-identity of future psychologists;
  • Features of psychoemotional burnout of adolescents under the conditions of family deprivation and alike.

Department staff and students take an active part in scientific conferences of Mukachevo State University, co-organize the conferences with higher educational institutions of Ukraine yearly; actively collaborate with the H.S. Kostiuk Institute of Psychology (National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine), L. Ukrainka Eastern European National University (Lutsk), Uzhgorod National University etc.
